KRI 2021 and The Story Behind It

One of the competitions that ICHIRO ITS Robotics team participated in was the Indonesian Robot Contest. Indonesian Robot Contest is a design and engineering competition in robotics, which is attended by students from universities all over Indonesia. This competition is organized by the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas), Education and Culture Ministry of Indonesia. This prestigious robot contest brings various categories of robotics competition. We represented Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology in the Indonesian soccer robot championship’s humanoid category (KRSBI-H). This event is expected to be a place to test the robot development research. The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic that hit the whole world, changed the way of life and the entire human world today. This has resulted in the 2020 Indonesian Robot Contest (KRI) changing its form from an offline contest to an online contest. In 2021, the National Achievement Center is still holding the Indonesian Robot Contest online.

We did a very thorough preparation before the contest. We focus on our training to improve the quality of the robots so that they can perform well when joining the game. The first stage elimination of the Regional Indonesian Robot Contest was held on July, 27th 2021. In the first stage of elimination, the robots were joining three sub-categories such as sprint, dribble, and robot cooperation. We successfully qualified for the final which was held on July, 28th 2021. Three medals were achieved in this chapter: 1st Place of Humanoid Robot Racing, 1st Place in Dribble Category, and 1st Place in Cooperation Robot Category. But we weren’t immediately satisfied with their achievement. We continued our journey to the next chapter in the National Indonesian Robot Contest. The first stage elimination of the National  Indonesian Robot Contest was held on October, 15th 2021. We passed to the quarterfinal in sprint category, semifinal in dribble category, and were going to group stage in robot cooperation. The next day we continued to struggle against the great teams in the Indonesian Robot Contest. Some of them are Krakatau FC, EROS, Al-Farobi, and EWAKO.

After going through a long journey, we finally achieved what was supposed to be ours. Sweat and tears that we spent turned out to be something amazing that is a victory. We feel very proud because we can achieve 1st Place of Dribble, 2nd Place of Robot Cooperation, and 3rd Place of Sprint. Not only those three categories, but we also got 1st Place in Humanoid Soccer Robot Category (KRSBI-H). This achievement will be a motivation for us to work harder and be better. We believe there are still many more challenging challenges to be faced.
